MTG-I2 (Meteosat Third Generation–Imager 2), the second operational imaging satellite in the European Space Agency (ESA) and EUMETSAT Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) weather-satellite system. It is a geostationary meteorological satellite designed to provide high-resolution, frequent observations of Europe, Africa, and the Atlantic, supporting weather forecasting, severe-weather monitoring, climate studies, and environmental observations. Like MTG-I1, it carries the advanced Flexible Combined Imager (FCI), which observes Earth in multiple visible and infrared spectral bands, allowing meteorologists to monitor clouds, storms, atmospheric moisture, land and sea surfaces, and rapidly developing severe weather with substantially improved spatial and temporal resolution compared with the previous Meteosat generation.
