Comments: COMS 1 is a South Korean satellite designed perform three very diverse roles from geostationary orbit at 128.3 degrees East. It features an experimental Ka-band communications package, a weather observation system and equipment to study ocean color and the marine ecosystem to aid the fishing industry. Astrium built the spacecraft for the Korea Aerospace Research Institute. The 5,400-pound (2,450-kg) bird, based on the Eurostar E3000 model, has a 10-year mission.
