Australia's Deadly Wildfires in Photos: The View from Space Fueled by a lengthy and intensifying drought, an early kickoff to fire season in the Australian states of Queensland and New South Wales began in September 2019 and continued into early 2020. Upwards of 100 wildfires have devastated Australia's southeast coast, killing at least 17 people. Satellites from NASA and other agencies are tracking the deadly wildfires from space.
