GEO-KOMPSAT-2A is South Korea’s first dedicated geostationary weather satellite, following the launch in 2010 of a multipurpose geostationary spacecraft with meteorological, communications and marine surveillance payloads. The satellite has taken a geostationary orbital slot 128.2 degrees east longitude, where it will perform 10-year mission surveying weather systems, cyclones and other phenomena across the Asia-Pacific region.
