DISCOVERY UNDOCKS FROM SPACE STATION DISCOVERY UNDOCKS FROM SPACE STATION - Discovery undocked from the International Space Station at 5:32 a.m. EST as they flew over the South Pacific. STS-120 Pilot George Zamka backed the orbiter about 400 feet from the station and performed a fly-around to allow crew members to collect video and imagery of the station in its new configuration. CREWS PREPARE FOR SPACEWALK - The STS-120 and Expedition 16 crews spent the day putting together tools and making preparations for Saturday’s spacewalk to repair a torn solar array. Using strips of aluminum, a hole punch, bolt connector and 66 feet of wire, astronauts constructed solar array hinge stabilizers that should allow them to take the pressure off of the damaged hinges on the solar array.   More

GERMAN SPY SATELLITE LAUNCHES INTO SPACE - The third of five planned German high-resolution SAR-Lupe radar reconnaissance satellites was successfully launched Nov. 1 by a Russian Cosmos-3M rocket and has begun what is expected to be four weeks of testing before it is transferred to the German armed forces, SAR-Lupe prime contractor OHB-System AG said.   More
