INDIA TO LAUNCH MILITARY SATELLITE - India will launch its first dedicated military satellite in August to give the country the capability to monitor missile launches in its neighbourhood. The dedicated military reconnaissance satellite, CARTOSAT 2A, will be launched on a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle rocket by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in the first week of August, an official said here. ATLANTIS SPACE STATION BOUND! - Cheers and shouts can be heard throughout the Kennedy Space Center as Atlantis roars off the launch pad into a clear blue Florida sky! Within 10 minutes, the shuttle will be in orbit around the Earth. Within 24 hours Atlantis will undergo the rendezvous pitch maneuver and thermal protection system tile inspection. ASTRONAUTS AT THE PAD - The STS-117 crew is at Launch Pad 39A. A short elevator ride to the 195-foot level takes the astronauts to the White Room where one by one each crewmember is assisted by NASA's closeout crew as they prepare to board the shuttle. STS-117 MISSION CREW LEAVES FOR PAD - After suiting up, the astronauts made their way out of their quarters of the Operations and Checkout Building to the cheers and applause from the crowd wishing them a successful mission. ATLANTIS' LAUNCH PREPARATIONS CONTINUE - There is an 80 percent chance of favorable weather at launch time this evening. The loading of Atlantis' external tank with 500,000 gallons of liquid oxygen and hydrogen began at 9:55 a.m. The "topping off" of propellants into the tank will continue until launch.
