Scientists say its first maps clearly show details not seen in previous space and ground measurements. Goce was launched by the European Space Agency (Esa) in March from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in north-west Russia. EU TO LAUNCH SATELLITE TO MONITOR GEORGIAN BREAKAWAY REGIONS - The European Union (EU) will launch a satellite to follow the situation in Georgia's breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze said Monday. The satellite would monitor the movement of people and equipment and the construction of military facilities in the two regions, Kalandadze said. All EU countries have agreed on the conduction of the supervision and preparations are already underway, she said.    More

GOES-14 WEATHER SATELLITE ACCEPTED INTO SERVICE & 3RD WEATHER SATELLITE ON THE WAY - The El Segundo, California-built Boeing weather satellite, GOES-14 was accepted into service by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA after completing on-orbit testing. NOAA will use GOES-14, which was launched on June 27th, to predict storms and monitor weather conditions across an estimated 60 percent of the planet, including the United States.    More

MILITARY SATELLITE LAUNCH IN FRENCH GUIANA DELAYED - The launch of a French military satellite from French Guiana has been delayed. Arianespace says it stopped the countdown in the final minutes before launch of the Helios 2B. Officials said Thursday that they would soon provide more details. The original launch was delayed on Dec. 9 after officials said they noticed an anomaly in the launcher subsystem. The Helios 2B was built by EADS Astrium for France's National Space Study Center.    More
